La Vernia ISD is proud to celebrate one of its own, Call Keese, a dedicated and accomplished student who recently earned the prestigious title of Eagle Scout—an achievement reached by only 5 to 6 percent of all scouts each year. This outstanding accomplishment reflects years of hard work, leadership, and a heart for helping others.
The 17-year-old junior has been a proud Bear since Kindergarten, balancing his academic success with a variety of extracurricular activities. As a member of the tennis team, band, jazz band, and National Honor Society, he exemplifies the values of dedication and service both inside and outside the classroom.
His journey in Scouting began at the young age of six with La Vernia Troop 118, where he worked his way through the ranks to become an Eagle Scout on February 24, 2025. Currently serving as the Senior Patrol Leader—the highest leadership position available to youth in the troop—he oversees delegating jobs, coordinating meals, researching camping trips, and ensuring the success of his fellow scouts. His leadership has been instrumental in the troop’s many camping trips, including a week-long excursion to Oklahoma last year.
For his Eagle Scout project, he partnered with the local Lions Club to create five collection boxes made of birch wood and plexiglass to gather contacts, glasses, and hearing aids to be repurposed for families in need. With decals provided by Bard Craft, the boxes were strategically placed in various locations throughout the community, including one that will rotate between La Vernia ISD campuses every nine weeks. The Eagle Scout board was so impressed with the project that they plan to share the idea with their local Lions Club chapters.
"I’ve always liked helping people," Keese shared. His commitment to service extends beyond scouting, as he actively participates in the National Honor Society’s community cleanup projects, including road and state park cleanups.
Throughout his journey, he credits several LVISD teachers for having a lasting impact on his life. Mr. Fliegel, who began teaching in La Vernia the same year he joined the band, has been a constant source of support and encouragement. Additionally, Coach Recker, his tennis coach since his sophomore year, has played a pivotal role in his development both on and off the court. "When I started, I could barely hold a racket, and now I’m fourth on the team. He’s pushed me to be better."
With 41 merit badges and three Eagle Palms under his belt—far surpassing the 22 merit badges required for Eagle Scout—the future is bright for this remarkable young man. His dedication to service, leadership, and academic excellence makes him a shining example of what it means to be part of the La Vernia community.
Congratulations, Call Keese, on this incredible achievement! Your LVISD family is proud of you and the positive impact you continue to make on our community.
