At the last board meeting, the La Vernia ISD School Board approved a significant pay increase and new incentives for the district’s transportation staff, reinforcing the district’s commitment to attracting and retaining high-quality employees.
Effective immediately, the starting pay for bus drivers has increased to $22.00 per hour, with up to a 6-hour daily guarantee. Additionally, bus monitors will now start at $15.00 per hour, and substitute drivers will receive a flat rate of $50.00 per route (AM/PM). The district also introduces a $300.00 attendance bonus for eligible transportation staff to further reward reliability and dedication.
“We recognize the critical role our transportation team plays in ensuring students arrive at school safely and on time,” said Superintendent Dr. Hensley Cone. “This investment reflects our appreciation for their hard work and dedication, and we hope it encourages more qualified individuals to join our team.”
The district currently has open bus driver positions and is actively seeking applicants. Those interested in joining the team are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
