2020-2021 School Year Calendar!
Greetings La Vernia ISD Community,
In cooperation with the Board of Trustees, we are excited to share our full 2020-2021 school year calendar with you! LVISD students, campus leaders, administrators, and community members spent countless hours preparing a calendar for next year that we believe best meets the educational needs of everyone in our school community. The Board proudly approved the calendar at their regular meeting on Monday, May 18. You can find and download a copy of the calendar on this webpage.
We also want to acknowledge and respond to recent discussions about school districts having the option to modify start dates or other portions of 2020-2021 calendars. While we value the information provided by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) that led to these discussions, we also believe in honoring the local school calendar development process we have established with our District Educational Excellence Council (DEEC). This exhaustive annual process incorporates feedback from parents, students, staff, and community members, and requires significant consideration and approval from our Board of Trustees. At this time, we intend to proceed with our current 2020-2021 school year calendar as organized by the DEEC and approved by our Trustees. We plan to begin school as scheduled on August 19, 2020.
While we currently expect to welcome the Bears back to school on that date, we must also be honest and say that we are not entirely sure what the beginning of school will look like right now as information from public health officials regarding COVID-19 continues to develop rapidly. District and campus leaders are already hard at work determining changes COVID-19 may require us to implement next year and we plan to share our progress with you frequently this summer. No matter what, our top priority is and will remain the health, safety, and well-being of everyone in our school community, and we must be prepared to make operational adjustments that are necessary to ensure that every LVISD student continues to receive a world-class education in a safe learning environment when school is back in session.
We will continue to keep you informed with the facts about how LVISD is addressing issues related to COVID-19. As we move forward together, we are confident that LVISD will emerge stronger than ever, and we cannot wait to celebrate the new heights of success our students, teachers, and schools are sure to reach in 2020 and beyond.
