Prior to coming to La Vernia ISD, Mrs. Oates served Huntsville ISD in leadership positions as an Assistant Principal for Curriculum & Instruction at both the high school and middle school levels as well as the Director of Special Education.

Mrs. Oates serves La Vernia ISD in supporting stakeholders in Special Education, Section 504, Response to Intervention, and Guidance & Counseling. Additionally, she works with the Coordinator of Advanced Academics to support Career & Technology Education, Advanced Placement, Dual Credit, Dual Enrollment, and  Gifted and Talented programming.

When searching for a new place to call home in the South Texas area, Mrs. Oates and her husband chose La Vernia based on the overwhelming sense of community. Throughout school and community activities, there is an atmosphere that supports families and students in establishing goals and working towards their achievement.

Mrs. Oates and her husband Chris are parents to two teengers, Garrett (La Vernia Class of 2018) and Delaney (La Vernia Class of 2020). Much of their family time is spent on the road as both children participate in youth and high school rodeo activities. Garrett also participates  in rodeos at the National level for high school, Amatuer level (CPRA) and and has recently begun to participate in PRCA rodeos. Following graduation he will attend Sam Houston State University on a rodeo scholarship. In addition to rodeo, Delaney is a two time All American Mascot for La Vernia High School, serves as a member of the Leadership Team for the FOR (Friends of Rachel) Club and is involved in FFA Leadership activities. When not on the rodeo road, Mrs. Oates enjoys reading and crafting, or spending time with her family hunting or floating the river.
