Shannon Burns joined the LVISD team in July of 2008 as an Assistant Principal. She also served as Special Programs Coordinator for 4 years before moving into the Human Resources position in March of 2015. She began her career in public education as a teacher in 2001 and also served as an Assistant Principal in Judson ISD prior to employment in La Vernia ISD.

She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Texas in San Antonio and a Master of Science in Educational Administration. She also completed a post-graduate Superintendent certification program through the University of Texas at Tyler.

As Executive Director of Human Resources and Program Services, Mrs. Burns oversees employee recruitment and retention, compensation and benefits, risk management, employee relations, and certification records. Her duties also include oversight of student attendance and discipline, special programs and assessment, library services, and health services, and community education.

Being a former graduate of La Vernia ISD, Mrs. Burns is passionate about serving her hometown, community and working to give back to the place that she calls home. The rural landscapes with neighbors who quickly become friends convinced Mrs. Burns to raise her family where values and family remain the driving force of our community. Mrs. Burns and her husband David have two beautiful daughters, Kennedy, a 2nd grader and Brynn, a Pre-Kindergartener, who both attend La Vernia Primary School. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, shopping, and exercising. She also coaches for the Catholic Youth Organization, which allows her to spend time with her daughter and other young girls who are experiencing sports and teamwork at a young age. Most importantly, she is passionate about giving back to the community and being a role model for our youth.
