Response to Intervention
Response to Intervention
LVISD has established Response to Intervention (RtI) as the district's school-wide, tiered model for identifying and providing early intervention to students falling behind their grade-level peers in core academic areas and behavior. RtI is a legal requirement of NCLB and IDEA 2004. The purpose of RtI is to improve the achievement of all students through the use of research-based instructional practices and early intervention which will result in fewer referrals to special education and other special programs.
Response to Intervention
- Provides high-quality instruction and intervention matched to student need.
- Monitors student progress frequently to make decisions about changes in instruction and behavior management.
- Uses the child's response data to make important educational decisions.
Campus Problem Solving Teams (PST’s) meet regularly to address the needs of struggling learners and develop intervention plans. A three tiered model of intervention and support has been adopted to ensure that students' learning needs are addressed appropriately. An aligned curriculum framework that enhances learning for all students has been developed. On-going focused staff development, classroom observations and walk-throughs, and frequent measurement of student progress ensure that quality services are being provided and learning is taking place.
