La Vernia Independent School District

Welcome Coach Taber!

La Vernia Independent School District is pleased to announce the hiring of Chris Taber as Boys’ Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. Taber brings over 15 years of coaching experience serving as an Offensive Coordinator, Head Football Coach, Head Baseball Coach, Head Track Coach and Athletic Director.  Under his leadership as a 5A Athletic Director, Coach Taber was able to rebuild a struggling athletic program at Jacksonville ISD and was able to establish both a competitive and winning culture, resulting in a Bi-District Finalist in football as well as multiple playoff appearances in other sports.  During his tenure as a 4A Boys’ Athletic and Offensive Coordinator at Chapel Hill ISD, Taber, experienced a State Championship in football as well as obtaining State Finalist status.  We are confident in Coach Taber’s experience and look forward to him leading our boys’ athletic program.

“I would like to thank Dr. Moreno and the Board of Trustees who have been unbelievable through this whole experience for allowing me the opportunity to lead the La Vernia athletic program.  It excites me to work for a district that shares the same vision I have in accomplishing excellence.  Dr. Moreno and La Vernia ISD have set a challenge to achieve the Lone Star Cup within the next three years.  This challenge will be met with enthusiasm and determination from day one.  La Vernia ISD deserves to be recognized as an elite school district in academics and athletics, and I will work tirelessly to make that happen.  This pursuit of excellence will require the help of our administration, our community and our staff, and I look forward to working with everyone.  My wife Kelly and I are excited to bring our children Abigail (14), Ty (10) and Bella (5) and become contributing members of the community.  I look forward to the challenges ahead and building a program based on Attitude, Effort, Discipline and Selflessness.”

Go Bears!!!

Chris Taber was approved for his position at the January 26th LVISD School Board meeting, with his official first day taking place in early February. Please join us in welcoming Coach Taber as a La Vernia Bear.  We are looking forward to a bright and exciting future ahead.
